I had a blast the other weekend when I flew down to California for a fun-filled weekend in honor of my soon-to-be-sister-in-law. I was so happy to co-host the bridal shower and was in my element planning all the little details. I hand made all of the decor (yes I might be a crazy person) and made all the little favors too! I have a few favorite decor details from the day that I have shared full size below, you can see more images from the day by checking me out on Pintrest.

The succulent favors were the perfect touch and helped to really bring together the table settings. A DIY tutorial to come soon on those. (Yes, I did make all the little wax seal tags for those pots too!)

The tissue paper poms were a great touch of whimsy, and of course perfect for the garden party theme. A great addition to any party are those cool fringey streamers you see hanging in the background. Click here for instructions on how to make the streamers (they are super easy).

I wanted table runners that added to that feeling of whimsy that much of the other decor had. I used different widths and lengths of ribbon in the same color family to achieve the perfect look.

I shared my love for balloons last month when I was in the planning stage of the party. Geronimo style balloons were definitely inspiration and a detail I knew I would have to have. The balloons I made were a big hit and might have been my favorite decor detail. I found great instructions and a source for the actual balloons here.

A true labor of love, I hand cut and assembled all these tissue paper flags. I was thrilled that they turned out to be a fabulous as I had envisioned them to be. (Click here to find out how to make these for yourself.)

When I heard the Mark Rothko exhibit was at the Portland Art Museum I had to go. His late career works are some of my personal faves and I was thrilled to see them live. I had an amazing girl-day with one of my Portland besties. The day started with a trip to the wholesale floral market (flowers for Mother’s Day), then off the museum, followed by lunch and Mani/Pedi’s. Oh, and then we went out for a delicious dinner. All in all I would have to say it was the perfect day.

This is my favorite Rothko hands down. At this point in Rothko’s career he had developed a signature style defined as “multi-form”. This exhibit in Portland is a homecoming of sorts, I had no idea that Rothko had emigrated from Russia as a 10 year old to Portland, Oregon.

Can I please make this into a scarf? How beautiful would that be! His abstract expressionism was a label he rejected, but is the best description of his work.

The simplicity of this piece is what I like most. The evolution of his life works was very cool to see. Here is a fun fact: until now a retrospective of Rothko’s paintings has never been staged in Portland, although his very first museum exhibition was hosted by the Portland Art Museum in 1933-34.

Aside from Rothko’s work I really enjoyed a few contemporary pieces that I wanted to share. I was drawn to this contemporary work by artist Dan Flavin, called “Untitled (To Donna) II”.

Another work of flourescent lights caught my eye on my way up the stairs……

Ha! I think that this is hilarious! Didn’t catch the artist on this one….

Darren Waterston’s, “In-Between” was my favorite contemporary piece by far.

I would be the happiest girl in the world if I lived in a greenhouse. In terms of decorating I am slighty obsessed with bringing the outdoors in, and of course the indoors out. I could truly get the best of both worlds if my bedroom was the image above, or below. Of course I might have to move south for this one, but I am in love with the idea of sleeping under the stars every night and rising with the sun every morning.

Notice the chandelier? Talk about shabby chic!

The other day I had the chance to participate in a fabulous wedding inspiration photo shoot. The look was Garden Party Glamour and the day was such a blast. I was thrilled to style the table settings as well as the brides and bridesmaids looks. I also provided some jewelry that I designed too. The shoot was held at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden here in Portland, Oregon. I love creative collaborations and working with talented people is always such a treat – the weather even cooperated. Here are just a few sneak peek photos, but I do promise to share the real deal photos and entire look soon.

Layering these amazing necklaces add a dramatic and glamorous touch to the brides look.

The rhododendron gardens are so beautiful.

Thanks to Bash! Events NW for asking me to be a part of such a great day.

I generally shy away from overly feminine colors when decorating. I have seen so many images recently with pops of the color pink, which completely changed my view of this ultra girly shade. I am now a big fan of electrifying an interior space with this color. It’s perfect when added in small doses like a great chair.

This look is traditional with a twist, the Louis XV chair gives the space such personality.

Hot pink is even appropriate in the office! In my opinion, any Martyn Lawrence-Bullard designed room is amazing.

This chair is so cute at the vanity.

I saved the best for last . . . This room would not be complete without the dash of hot pink! I am in LOVE with the nail head detail on the chair!

I am having an amazing weekend so far! It feels so nice to be in one of my favorite places in the world. Mostly it feels great to catch up with my family and just enjoy some time together. Here are a few of my favorite things this week.

Enjoy!

For a delicious and easy dinner or appetizer throw this together in a flash.

With the season changing this will warm your soul on a cold night.

Feeling Blue? Love this as a fresh inspiration for interior design.

An incredible classic, yet vintage wedding. It looks AMAZING. (The Lazaro gown in a personal favorite of mine!)

I am loving this amazing outfit! Great mix of pieces, color and style.

And finally, I was totally inspired to throw an exotic themed bash when I saw this.

I stumbled across this image online the other day and it took my breath away. This is truly my dream kitchen. This kitchen is from The House of Windsor, Veranda Magazine’s first-ever concept house. Everything about it is stunning; the marble, the appliances, the wood floors. I am in LOVE!
